Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police have arrested the prime suspect in the ‘iBomma piracy website case’ on Friday.
The suspect Immadhi Ravi, allegedly oversaw the upload and distribution of the pirated Telugu films and OTT content through the iBomma website. The police had registered a case against Ravi and four others in September following complaints from the Telugu film bodies about the piracy and huge losses to the industry.
The Cyberabad police took into custody Ravi, when he arrived in the city from France on Friday night at RGI Airport. He was handed over to the Kukatpally police for further action.
Ravi was found to be running the website from the Caribbean islands. Several film producers filed cases against the website for uploading movies on the release day causing financial losses to them.
The Telugu Film Anti-Piracy Team and several film producers had earlier lodged complaints against the widespread circulation of newly released movies on iBomma.
In September, Hyderabad Cyber crime police booked as many as 65 mirror websites, including the widely used iBomma and Bappam platforms, for illegally uploading and distributing Telugu films.
