Hyderabad: The Cyberabad SOT officials, along with the Medchal police, busted an interstate spurious seed transport racket and seized banned BG-III cotton seeds worth Rs 90 lakh and arrested two persons on Friday.

The total seizure, including a transport vehicle, is valued at Rs 98 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a Mahindra Bolero near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Medchal. During inspection, officers discovered 3,000 kg of banned cotton seeds concealed beneath cabbage bags, indicating an attempt to evade detection.

Police said the main supplier, M Samba Shivarao, who is currently absconding, had allegedly arranged the transport of the seeds from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh to Nagpur in Maharashtra. He reportedly hired the vehicle for Rs 30,000.

Police arrested the driver T Ramesh and vehicle owner Ch Narsimulu, both residents of Kosgi mandal in Kurnool district. The receiver’s details were yet to be disclosed, as they were to be shared only upon reaching the destination.

Officials said Shivarao and Narsimulu were previously involved in a similar case registered in 2025 in Suryapet district.

The case is under investigation.
