Hyderabad: In view of the increasing number of road crashes involving drunk driving, the Cyberabad Police held a meeting with managements of bars, restaurants, pubs, wine shops and hotels.

Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar urged the managements of these business establishments to understand the seriousness of drunk driving which claimed hundreds of lives on the roads every year, and support the police in preventing the hazards of drunk driving.

The managements were told to participate actively in the drive against drunk driving menace by taking preventive measures at their premises. Also, they were advised to deploy staff specifically to verify, identify and prevent their customers from driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The managements must also take up proactive measures to educate, alert and help their customers to travel safely back home by arranging alternative transportation facilities,” Sajjanar said. They were asked to put signages at all entry, exit, parking and sitting areas warning the customers about the legal consequences of drunk driving.

It was also decided that all establishments must display educational messages prominently in their premises and also play audio and video messages frequently to alert their customers. The managements were also told to install surveillance cameras covering all the public activity places in their premises.
