Hyderabad: Cyberabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar on Saturday warned ambulance service providers and drivers against looting the public by charging exorbitant rates for shifting patients to hospitals. The Commissioner of Police asked the people to Dial 100 and make a complaint at the police control room in case they were overcharged.
“Specific cases under Disaster Management Act and Indian Penal Code will be registered against those charging exorbitant rates. It is time to show a humane approach to the distressed and one should understand it,” the Commissioner said, adding that people should first call up the hospital and confirm with the management before shifting the patient to avoid rushing from one place to another in the ambulance.
In view of the increase in demand and delay in getting ambulances, the Cyberabad Police also launched 12 ambulances with the help of corporate firms on Saturday. The service will be provided free of charge to the people to shift patients to hospital.
“Not only Covid related emergencies but also other patients can be shifted in the ambulances,” Sajjanar said, adding that the ambulances would be available for people of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda. “An Inspector rank officer is in-charge of the ambulance section. People can reach the officer on 94906-17431,” he said, adding that more ambulances would be added to the fleet soon.
