Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police arrested a three-member inter-State attention diversion gang involved in several cheating cases in the suburbs. The police seized 140 ATM cards and recovered Rs 2.38 lakh in cash from the members.
Acting on a tip-off, the police caught Kariman Shani (33), Rupdev Sahani (34) of Bihar, and Saheeb Sahini (34) of Punjab, all labourers at Shamshabad.
According to the police, the three collected old ATM cards from different places in the country and kept them. They then moved around ATM centres in the city and suburbs and waited for a senior citizen to come to them.
“On the pretext of helping the senior citizens or illiterate people in cash withdrawals, the gang members would divert the attention of the victim and replace their ATM card with the old card,” ACP Shadnagar N CH Ranga Swamy said. Later, the gang members would visit the ATM centres and withdraw the cash using the victim’s card.
The gang was involved in 15 cases in Cyberabad and Jadcherla.
