Cyberabad police probe fake Instagram account targeting woman amid divorce
A retired government employee has approached the Cyberabad Cyber Crime Police, alleging that his daughter, who lives in the US, was targeted through fake Instagram and Facebook accounts during an ongoing divorce. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
Hyderabad: A retired government employee from the city lodged a complaint with the Cyberabad Cybercrime police alleging that his daughter, who lives in Denver in the US, was being harassed through a fake Instagram account amid an ongoing divorce process.
According to the complaint, the woman, a native of Manikonda, had married a resident of Srinagar Colony a few years ago, and the couple had been living in the United States. They have two children. Following marital disputes, the couple decided to seek a divorce. The husband is currently residing in Dallas, while the woman lives with their children in Denver.
The complainant alleged that the woman’s in-laws had been trying to harass her. Since January this year, unidentified persons have allegedly created a fake Instagram account and used it to target her. The suspects also reportedly posted objectionable content about the woman on Facebook in an attempt to defame her.
Based on the complaint, Cyberabad Cybercrime police registered a case and took up investigation to identify those behind the fake social media accounts and the defamatory posts.
