Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Cybercrime Police solved 14 cybercrime cases and arrested 23 suspects across several States, exposing the pan-India spread of organised cyber fraud networks during a special drive between January 16 and 22.
According to police data, trading fraud dominated the cases, accounting for 6 cases and 11 arrests. This was followed by digital arrest fraud with 3 cases and 5 arrests, part-time job fraud with 2 cases and 3 arrests, loan fraud with 2 cases and 2 arrests and job fraud with one case and 2 arrests.
During the same period, officials also secured 354 refund orders in 70 cases from the courts, facilitating refunds amounting to Rs 1.06 crore to cybercrime victims.
In one major case, police busted a Rs 2.9 crore online trading and IPO fraud, arresting two persons from Andhra Pradesh for providing bank accounts used to route cheated money.
In another case, police uncovered a digital arrest fraud in which a 74-year-old woman was cheated to the tune of Rs 56.50 lakh. Two suspects were arrested for allegedly supplying bank accounts to cyber fraudsters.
Police have advised citizens to report cyber fraud immediately by calling 1930 or visiting www.cybercrime.gov.in.
