Cyclone Montha hits daily life in Telangana as heavy rains continue
Cyclone Montha brought heavy rains across Telangana on Wednesday, prompting red alerts in Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, and Peddapalli districts. Several other regions remain on high alert as Sangareddy and surrounding areas recorded intense rainfall, disrupting normal life and triggering flood concerns.

Hyderabad: The severe cyclonic storm Montha continues to unleash its fury over parts of Telangana on Wednesday, triggering widespread rainfall across multiple districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had already issued heightened alerts, warning of intense downpours and gusty winds. According to reports, the IMD has placed the four districts of Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad and Peddapalli under a red alert for Wednesday. Officials are gearing up to face ‘heavy to very heavy’ rainfall predicted in the districts placed under red alert in view of the possibility of potential flash floods and disruptions to daily life.
The districts of Adilabad, Jangaon, Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem continue to be under constant watch and close monitoring. These regions, along with Kumram Bheem and Mancherial, could see light to heavy showers. Additionally, yellow alerts cover 21 districts, including Siddipet and Suryapet, where isolated heavy rains are expected.
Highest rainfall
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, at least 10 stations recorded downpours ranging from 30 mm to 60 mm, with Sangareddy district bearing the brunt. Choutuppal received the highest of 60.5mm followed by Manchal with 59.2, Sangareddy-53.8, Kandi – 48.0, Sadasivpet- 36.2, Kondapur- 34.2, Regode- 32.4, Naykal- 32.4, Chennur- 31.2 and Jogipet- 31 mm. District wise, Kumram Bheem received 8 mm, Nalgonda-15 mm, Rangareddy-13.2 mm, Sangareddy – 20.7 mm and Yadadri Bhongir 10.5 mm.
