Hyderabad: Indian grappler Darpan Raju Chaudhari clinched a gold medal as the country’s Greco-Roman contingent bagged five medals on the opening day of the Under-15 Asian Wrestling Championships in Pattaya (Thailand) on Saturday.
Competing in the 62kg weight category, Darpan Chaudhari registered a comfortable 5-0 win over Tajikistan’s Amridin Qurbonov in the final to secure India’s only gold of the day.
Besides the solitary gold, India won three silver and a bronze medal.
In the 75kg category, Gourav Gundaji Patil missed out on the top prize, losing his title clash to Tajikistan’s Bakhovaddin Alovaddinzoda on criteria after the bout ended in a 1-1 tie.
Yash (48kg) and Jatin (85kg) settled for silver medals after losing their respective finals to Kazakhstan’s Rollan Kim and Yerali Muratov by identical 0-8 margins.
Meanwhile, Paryas Dhounchak secured the bronze medal in the 57kg division, outclassing Turkmenistan’s Muhammad Ulugbekov 8-0 via technical superiority.
Three other Indian wrestlers, Saurav (38kg), Rajveer Singh (44kg) and Tushar Khokar (52kg) lost their respective bronze-medal playoffs to finish fifth.
