Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan accused the Congress government of pushing slum residents in Khairatabad constituency into inhuman living conditions through official neglect and stalled civic works. Demanding immediate intervention from GHMC Commissioner Ilangovan L Karnan and Water Board officials, he warned that the BRS would lay siege to the GHMC headquarters if the issues were not resolved without delay.
The BRS MLC toured Sriram Nagar and Ambedkar Nagar bastis (slums) in the Banjara Hills division along with local leaders on Wednesday. He interacted with residents and inspected the challenges they were facing.
Sravan targeted Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who also holds the Municipal Administration portfolio, for focusing more on real estate ventures in the name of Future City while ignoring basic civic infrastructure in the heart of Hyderabad. He said the “Telangana Rising” slogan existed only in advertisements, while residents struggled with damaged roads, overflowing drains and drinking water shortages.
He alleged that drainage and nala works had been halted after the Congress government failed to clear contractors’ bills. Roads and drains near the Mohammadiya Mosque had remained dug up for months, forcing residents to travel through unsafe stretches.
Sravan said residents of Ambedkar Nagar had not received a regular drinking water supply for two months, with water being supplied only once every two or three days, and at times mixed with drainage water. He claimed that under the previous BRS government, the supply was regular and safe.
He also accused Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender of neglecting constituency issues due to political uncertainty over his own position after defecting to the ruling Congress.
