Dating racket busted by Cyberabad police

Hyderabad: A gang from West Bengal involved in cheating people on pretext of providing male and female escorts and collecting money online was nabbed by the Cyberabad police on Friday. The police seized a laptop, 28 mobile phones and eight ATM cards along with other articles from them.
The arrested persons were identified as Bijay Kumar Sah, Binod Kumar Sah and Mohamad Nur Alam Ansari all from West Bengal. Three others – Santhu Das, Amit Paul and Sushank Kumar Sah are absconding while two others who assisted them Deepa Haldar, Shikha Halder in running the racket, were given notice under Section 41 CrPC.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar said the gang created dating/escort service website with the help of professionals and posted few telephone numbers assuring male escort jobs for men/boys and providing female escort services. When a person called on the telephone numbers Deepa and Shikha would talk to them and con them into paying money towards joining fees etc., and collected huge money from them.
“Several persons lost money to the gang headed by Bijay Kumar who had set up a call center in Siliguri Town. The money transferred to the accounts was also collected by the gang from different ATM centers in the town,” said he said.
The Commissioner asked public not to share any private information to callers and avoid enticing calls from unknown persons.
