Daughter elected sarpanch, father becomes deputy in Jangaon village
In a rare political development in Jangaon district, a young woman was elected sarpanch while her father emerged as deputy sarpanch in Venkiryal gram panchayat during the second phase of gram panchayat elections, drawing attention across political circles
A man and his daughter have been elected as deputy sarpanch and sarpanch in Jangaon district.
Jangaon: In a rare political combination, a young woman has been elected as sarpanch while her father has been elected as her deputy in the district during the second phase of gram panchayat elections held on Sunday.
In a development that unfolded in Venkiryal gram panchayat, BJP-supported Gollapally Alekhya won the sarpanch seat. In the deputy sarpanch election, Congress and BRS candidates secured an equal number of votes from the ward members and one of the contestants happened to be Alekhya’s father.
To decide the outcome, the sarpanch’s vote was required. Sarpanch-elect Alekhya cast her vote in favour of her father, Parshaiah, a BRS supporter. With this, he emerged victorious. This rather unusual situation, where a father will act as deputy to his daughter, has attracted the attention of political circles in the district, while wishes poured in for the father-daughter duo.
