Debt-ridden farmer dies by suicide in Nirmal’s Kuntala mandal
A 49-year-old farmer from Kuntala in Telangana’s Nirmal district died by suicide on Saturday after failing to repay debts. Rajaram Gajender was under pressure due to repeated crop failures and rising financial burdens, police said
Nirmal: Distressed over his inability to repay mounting debts, a 49-year-old farmer reportedly died by suicide in Kuntala mandal centre on Saturday.
Police said Rajaram Gajender, a resident of Kuntala, ended his life by hanging from a tree on his farmland around 5 am. He was reportedly under severe stress due to repeated crop failures over the last two years.
Gajender had borrowed around Rs 4 lakh to cultivate crops on his land and an additional 11 acres he had leased from two others. However, consecutive agricultural losses, especially over the last few seasons, left him unable to repay his loans, pushing him into financial distress.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son. Based on a complaint from his family, police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
