Khammam: December 9 was the day on which Telangana movement reached its fruition because of a deeksha undertaken by the BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, stated former Lok Sabha leader of BRS, former MP Nama Nageswara Rao.

He said Chandrashekhar Rao fulfilled the aspiration of self-rule of Telangana people through his six and a half decades struggle, which was carried out in the interests of Telangana people. The final stage statehood movement was taken to the peak level by the BRS chief with ‘do or die’ deeksha.

As a result on December 9, 2009, the then union Minister of Home Affairs P Chidambaram announced that the Centre would initiate the process of forming a separate Telangana state, Nageswara Rao said in statement here on Monday.

The ex-MP recalled that even though he was the leader of the TDP parliamentary party in the 15th Lok Sabha, in the BAC meeting held in the Parliament, he spoke about introducing the Telangana Bill in the Parliament referring to the BRS chief’s serious health condition.

Telangana MPs spoke about the injustice being meted out to Telangana insisting on the statehood to Telangana region and stalled Parliament demanding to introduce Telangana Bill, Nageswara Rao said adding that he along with Chandrashekhar Rao submitted their resignations in Speaker format to their MP posts.

Telangana students, activists, employees and those who were martyred for the cause have continuously raised their voices for the separate state. Ultimately the Telangana Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha, the ex-MP said, stating that he was the first Telangana MP to cast a vote in favour of the bill.

As the leader of the statehood movement, the BRS chief put his life at stake to achieve Telangana state. Chandrashekhar Rao’s fighting spirit and the sacrifice of the martyrs should never be forgotten, Nageswara Rao added.
