Hyderabad:With Axar Patel complaining of knee pain at the 11th hour, Indian team management selected Shahbaz Nadeem as the second spinner for the first Test that India lost to concede the advantage to the touring England side.

There were questions raised about excluding Kuldeep Yadav. The cricket pundits hit out at the team management for not going ahead with the chinaman bowler, especially after Nadeem failed to make an impression. With the second Test set to begin from Saturday, Axar Patel’s availability once again put the dilemma in selectors’ mind.

However, former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta  feels Axar Patel is ahead in the race to make the cut ahead of Kuldeep Yadav. “Honestly, with how Shahbaz bowled in the last Test match, I think there will be a replacement. Axar could be a very, very good choice and so will Kuldeep but I think Axar because a left-arm orthodox spinner brings in more control, that’s the reason why he might be preferred and it’s a straight swap, Axar coming in for Nadeem. I don’t see both of them playing together, and I guess Axar will be a choice,” he said.
