Hyderabad: The works on several major roads in Hyderabad that were dug up for stormwater drainage and repair and restoration, remain stalled for weeks, causing significant inconvenience to citizens.
The GHMC took up work adjacent to Gandhi Bhavan to lay a new drainage system, but the progress has been tardy for the past two weeks, leaving the road torn up and traffic disrupted. Local shopkeepers said the works stopped for over two weeks, which has led to inconvenience for road users.
Similar civil work on the main stretch at MJ Market leaves commuters frustrated. Over 30 per cent of the main roads have been blocked due to the ongoing works and almost 10 days have passed, but the works are proceeding at a snail’s pace.
Meanwhile, the Road No 8 in Banjara Hills was dug up to lay a new CC road, but work remained stalled for several 10 days with the residents blaming authorities for the inconveniences faced by them.
In Mallepally, two drainage pipelines were laid on the road for the stormwater drain and works remain incomplete. These pipelines cause inconvenience to local residents and daily commuters and the residents demand that civic authorities either shift the pipelines or complete the work without further delay.
A senior GHMC engineering official said, “Due to a shortage of daily wage workers, the works were delayed. We will ensure all ongoing works are completed shortly.”
