Hyderabad: Doctors at Gleneagles Global Hospitals on Wednesday said that delay in diagnosis during Covid pandemic is leading to a rise in the number of stage-IV lung cancer cases in Hyderabad. Based on observational data, the hospital doctors said there has been a 50 per cent rise in the cases of stage-IV lung cancer in the last six months.
Lung cancers tend to double in size within a span of three to six months. Delaying medical care complicates the condition and the risk increases manifold. It is important for such patients to get medical attention at the earliest,” senior pulmonologist from the hospital, Dr Tapaswi Krishna P said.
The chest specialist said that apart from lung cancers, patients with Tuberculosis (TB) are also struggling due to delay in seeking medical attention during the Covid pandemic. “A 50 per cent rise in stage-IV lung cancers should be a cause of worry for all. There is no indication that the pandemic will be over quickly. It’s better not to delay seeking treatment,” the hospital doctors added.
