New Delhi: Delhi is expected to witness a partly sunny day on Friday, although some parts of the national capital may receive light to moderate rainfall. Temperatures are likely to range between 27 and 35 degrees Celsius.

Delhi-NCR is expected to remain under generally cloudy skies, with rainfall likely to occur in intermittent spells rather than continuously throughout the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on August 20 and again on August 22.

However, Delhi’s detailed city forecast mainly indicates very light to light rainfall, with moderate showers possible at isolated places. Several parts of the country are currently experiencing heavy rainfall, and wet weather conditions are expected to continue in the coming days. Fresh rainfall alerts have also been issued for August 21 across several parts of the country.

Punjab is likely to witness fresh spells of rain on Friday and Saturday, with moderate to heavy rainfall possible in some areas. Meanwhile, Mumbai is likely to experience thunderstorms, followed by relatively cool and breezy conditions. The temperature in the city is likely to range between 25 and 31 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall is expected to remain widespread across several parts of India over the next few days. The Himalayan region, central and eastern India, the Northeast and parts of the west coast may continue to experience wet conditions, with isolated heavy to very heavy showers possible in some areas. Amid humid and fluctuating weather conditions, cases of H1N1, or swine flu, and other respiratory infections are being reported more frequently in Delhi-NCR and some other parts of the country.

Doctors have advised people to remain alert for flu-like symptoms and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of infection. The national capital had recorded 1,344 cases by early August, compared with 229 during the corresponding period last year, nearly six times higher. Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the poor category.

Several monitoring stations recorded varying AQI levels, including Mundka at 134, Siri Fort at 123, Sonia Vihar at 124, Dwarka Sector 8 at 181, Anand Vihar at 242, Jahangirpuri at 158, IIT Delhi at 142, Bawana at 136 and Pusa at 145. Najafgarh and the Commonwealth Sports Complex recorded an AQI of 95 each, while the Cantonment Area stood at 93 and JNU at 90.
