Hyderabad: UK headquartered online food delivery company Deliveroo has opened its largest engineering centre in Hyderabad and plans to double the headcount by 2023. The engineering centre, which is the largest outside of its headquarters in London, will allow the company to grow rapidly globally. The centre, according to the company’s top official, will have 150 engineers by the end of this year and by 2023 it plans to have 300 people working in the centre.

“We have 20 engineers hired in last three months and by the end of this year we plan to hire 150 engineers. These engineers will work on areas like data science, machine learning, automation, artificial intelligence, and front-end and back-end services. We are also looking to hire product managers in the Hyderabad centre,” says Sashi Somavarapu, vice-president of engineering, Deliveroo India.

Hyderabad, Somavarapu said, has tremendous opportunity in terms of talent and as it is centrally located from Australia and England, it will be easier for them to work on different products and problems. “The engineers working from the Hyderabad centre will work for the global market from India,” he said.

IT and Industries Department Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said Hyderabad has succeeded in attracting many Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and many consumer facing brands have also their presence here.
