Kothagudem: The district task force team took up a demolition drive of illegal structures in Kothagudem on Tuesday.
The task force team comprising R&B, revenue, police, irrigation and municipal officials partially demolished two structures at Gautham Nagar in Patha Kothagudem. The local councillors tried to resist the demolition but were taken into custody by police.
The residents whose houses were demolished complained that the municipal officials had not served notice to them before taking up the demolition. The police and municipal officials have not been allowed to give an explanation either, they said.
Municipal Chairperson Kapu Sitalakshmi, Municipal Commissioner A Sampath Kumar and others visited the colony and took stock of the situation. According to officials there were around 198 illegal structures in Kothagudem Municipality limits.
Similarly, officials have demolished illegal structures built on shikam lands of Rathi Cheruvu tank at Paloncha in the district.
