Kamareddy: A despondent elderly couple, worried about their age-related problems and lack of children to look after them, committed suicide near a temple at Nasrullabad mandal headquarters of Kamareddy district.

Gangadhar Giri (70) and Mahananda (65) belonged to Biloli area of Maharashtra. On Thursday morning, they arrived at Kochera Maisamma temple at Nasrullabad mandal headquarters where the duo consumed poison.

Locals found the couple lying down unconsiously on the temple premises and informed the police who rushed to the spot. As Gangadhar Giri died at the spot, police rushed Mahananda to Banswada area hospital where she breathed her last. Quoting the locals, Narsullabad SI Machander said the elderly couple was much worried about their life as they had no children or heirs to take care of them in their sunset years.
