Hyderabad: If you are looking for some daily dose of ‘desi’ humour then don’t forget to take a look at Kiran Shanigaram’s YouTube channel ‘Saarey Star’. The Hyderabad-born comic is residing in the Bay Area, California in the United States since 2007 and the idea to start making humourous videos struck him at his in-laws’ Golden Jubilee Anniversary party. “Since then I have made videos on a variety of relatable topics like ‘Mom’s The Word’ and ‘How to Get Tea from Angry Wife’.
My wife Lata and my kids Saanvi and Reyansh also star in my videos. We all love comedy and dancing, so decided to entertain others as well. Some of my videos have dance performances by my wife and me, and also my daughter,” says Kiran, Cyber Security Manager at eBay Inc.
‘How to Get Tea from Angry Wife’ sees Kiran struggling to get a cup of tea made by his wife Lata as the couple had a fight. Kiran calls up his friend (also played by him) for help. After trying multiple things, Kiran decides to make some horrible chai and give it to his wife so that she is motivated to make some herself.
Kiran’s videos are shot in proper Telugu as his roots are from Aknoor, Cherial in Hanamkonda district. His comic timing and the funny meme material he uses of Balakrishna etc., make his videos worth watching. His content has become quite a hit with the Telugu community in California and has been circulating in WhatsApp groups even in Hyderabad.
“I am the cultural lead for MTTA (Mountain House Tracy Telugu Association). I am also one of the leads at eBay – COI (Community Of Inclusion) called DESI (Develop Empower Support Indian Sub-Continent). Entertainment has been a huge part of my life and my favourite comedian till date is Brahmanandam. I believe that laughter is the best solution for our mundane problems in life – I began making these videos after the pandemic began because I had more free time on me,” adds Kiran.
Kiran is also a black belt in Taekwondo and enjoys playing cricket in his free time. He also makes videos for his friends for birthdays and festivals.
