Hyderabad: Telugu Titans, despite having star players in their side, are yet to win the title in the Pro Kabaddi League. With the eighth season of the league set to commence in a month’s time, the team is undergoing rigorous training in Hyderabad in a bid to clinch their maiden title.
Jagadeesh Kumble, the Titans coach, says they are determined to win the title this year, which will be held in Bengaluru. “We did not get desired results in the league so far. We all know that and the management worked hard to set up a very good team after the auctions. We are determined to win the trophy this season.”
Speaking about the team’s composition, the coach from Kerala said, “We bought talented youngsters in the auctions. We also brought experienced player like Rohit Kumar, who won the trophy with the Bengaluru team. His addition will give good support to Siddharth (Desai) in raids. We also roped in Sandeep Kandola for the left corner, who is very good. We also have players like Rajnish, Rakesh Gouda, Arun who are experienced players. The specialty of this team is, we have a cover for each position in the team. If one player doesn’t perform well in a particular position, we have a back-up for that position. So the team is well balanced this time,” said Jagadeesh who also coached Bengal Warriors before joining Titans in the 2019 season.
When asked about the impact of Covid-19 and lack of matches for the last two years, he responded, “Yes, there were no matches. But most of the players maintained their fitness levels. The youngsters are fit and the players like Siddharth and others, who are associated with departments like Services, Railways and Army, continued their game and they maintained their game. We had our first camp before Diwali and accessed the players’ fitness levels. We were also in touch with our retained players during the two-year period and monitored their fitness levels. After the first camp, we found a few players who struggled with fitness. We worked with them and now all are good. But it is true that they lacked match practice. It is the same with each team.”
