Hanamkonda: Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand launched a special grievance portal, ‘TG-VEER’, to address the concerns of police martyrs’ families in Telangana.

The DGP launched the portal here on Sunday. He was on a three-day visit to erstwhile Warangal district and met with the family members of 28 police martyrs, who lost their lives in the line of duty while combating Naxalism.

The portal serves as a single platform for family members to register grievances regarding financial assistance, ex-gratia, compassionate appointments, housing plot allocations, land registration or title issues, pensions, other welfare schemes and others.

The DGP reviewed Warangal police commissionerate functioning with senior officials and later addressed the media. During his review, he suggested that while technology was crucial in policing, fundamental policing principles must not be overlooked.

Though technology helps provide better services to the public, it could not be a substitute for basic policing. From combating Naxalism in the past to handling cybercrimes, drugs, financial offences and road safety at present, there has been a massive shift in policing, he said.

Anand recalled that his IPS career began with training in Warangal and noted that his tenure as the Warangal rural SP remains unforgettable. During the height of Naxalism, police personnel performed their duties amidst the constant threat of landmine blasts and attacks. The better law and order situation prevailing in the State now is due to the sacrifices made by police martyrs, he said.

Referring to the seriousness of cybercrimes, the DGP revealed that Telangana people lost around Rs 1,700 crore to cybercrimes last year. Telangana secured the top spot in the country in the Prime Minister’s ‘PRAGATI’ review regarding the control of cybercrimes.

The DGP expressed concern over attempts to hook children onto narcotics disguised as chocolates. He warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in such crimes and wanted educational institutions to play a pivotal role in drug prevention.

Out of 3,758 sanctioned posts in 50 police stations under the commissionerate, only 2,976 personnel were on duty, leaving 782 posts vacant. Surveillance was mounted against gangs arriving by train from Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha to commit thefts in Warangal and Kazipet areas, he said.
