Be it ‘Sivasaami’ in Asuran or being ‘Karnan’, Dhanush has the extraordinary ability to live the ‘roles’ on the big screen, which sets him apart from his contemporaries in the film industry.

His role in 2019 the movie Asuran won him the National Award for the best actor for a second time after 2011. The actor received his first National Award for his performance in Vetrimaran directorial Aadukalam. His fans fondly call him the ‘Indian Bruce Lee’, a nickname Dhanush earned after his road movie Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan in 2004. Whether it be grooving to Rowdy Baby or singing Kolaveri Di, Dhanush has caught international attention on several occasions for his multi-talented persona.

The actor’s latest movie JagameThandiram is gearing up for its worldwide digital release on Netflix on June 18. Dhanush plays the role of ‘Suruli Rajan’ in the action thriller directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The gangster film also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, James Cosmo, Joju George, Kalaiyarasan and Soundararaja. The songs and the trailer of the movie have been well received and the audience are eagerly waiting for yet another mesmerising performance from Dhanush.

The 37-year-old actor is married to Aishwarya Rajinikanth, daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, and made his debut in the 2002 Tamil film Thulluvadhollamai, directed by his father Kasthuri Raja. Over the years, Dhanush has become one of the most popular actors in the country with a pan-Indian fan base.

Dhanush made his Bollywood debut in the 2013 film Raanjhanaa, directed by Aanand L Rai. Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol and Swara Bhaskar played the other important roles in the movie.

In a career spanning over 19 years, Dhanush has been quite successful in maintaining a fine balance between ‘realistic’ and ‘commercial’ cinema propelling him to greater heights of stardom. Having acted in over 40 films till date, the actor has delivered several commercial hits, including Maari, Anegan and also acted in critically-acclaimed movies like Vada Chennai and Mayakkam Enna.

Dhanush is extremely popular as ‘Raghuvaran B.Tech’ among Telugu audience as well. In the year 2010, Dhanush along with his wife Aishwarya set up their own production house ‘Wunderbar Films’. Dhanush has excelled in his role as a producer as well, by being part of critically-acclaimed, National Award-winning movies like Kaaka Muttai and Visaranai.

In 2017, he made his directorial debut with the Tamil movie called Pa Paandi starring Rajkiran and Revathi in the lead roles. In the following year, he made his international debut in the French adventure comedy film The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir, directed by Ken Scott.

“I walk into a set having only my scene in my mind. I try to do justice to the part that I’m playing with my limited knowledge,” Dhanush was quoted saying in an interview with Film Companion.

The simple and humble actor continues to impress and is evolving as one of the greatest actors of modern times.
