Dhanush reveals why he chose to act in Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa
At the launch of Kuberaa's song Pippi Pippi Dum Dum Dum, actor Dhanush praised director Sekhar Kammula, calling him the reason he joined the film. Dhanush said the film was close to his heart and creatively enriching to shoot.
Chennai: Calling director Sekhar Kammula “a great person,” actor Dhanush on Tuesday said he chose to do Kuberaa solely because of the filmmaker.
Speaking at a music launch event in Mumbai for the film’s single Pippi Pippi Dum Dum Dum, Dhanush opened up about his experience working on the much-anticipated project.
“I heard I had to stand in the sun. I had to do a lot of research… All those are lies,” he quipped.
“I just had to follow my director. Sekhar sir was brilliant. He taught me the nuances and made life very easy for me. This is a very different character from what I’ve played before, and I enjoyed the challenge,” the actor candidly shared.
He praised Kammula once again, echoing sentiments he has shared earlier.
“Sekhar sir is a fantastic human being. You won’t meet a person like him. He is so clean, so pure, with such a good heart. You do many films, meet many people, but when you meet someone like Sekhar Kammula, you feel the journey is worth it. It is because of this man that I did this film,” he said.
“He narrated it for just 20 minutes. I loved his energy, his positivity, and his approach. I love his honesty — in filmmaking and as a person. Sekhar is a great person,” Dhanush added.
Describing Kuberaa as a very special film close to his heart, the actor said:
“It was a fantastic experience shooting for this film. We shot in dumpyards and garbage trucks. Every experience teaches you something.”
Apart from Dhanush and Nagarjuna, Kuberaa also stars Jim Sarbh and Rashmika Mandanna in key roles. The film is eagerly awaited, marking the first collaboration between National Award-winning actor Dhanush and acclaimed filmmaker Sekhar Kammula.
On the technical front, the film has music by Devi Sri Prasad, currently enjoying a successful streak with recent releases.
The cinematography is by Niketh Bommi, while Ramakrishna Sabbani and Monika Nigotre serve as production designers. The screenplay has been co-written by Chaithanya Pingali. Costume design is by Kavya Sriram and Poorvaa Jain.
Kuberaa is being produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under the banner of Sree Venkateswara Cinemas.
