Hyderabad: Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni’s cricket academy – MS Dhoni Cricket Academy – was inaugurated at the Delhi Public School, Nacharam on Friday.
Malla Reddy, Minister of Labour and Employment of Telangana, Allipuram Venkateshwar Reddy, Chairman of Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) along with Mihir Diwakar, Managing Director MS Dhoni Cricket Academy (MSDCA) and Aarka Sports, Malka Komaraiah Chairman Delhi Public School (DPS) Nadergul launched the academy officially.
Mihir Diwakar revealed the reason behind the MSDCA is to create cricketers from the nook and corners of the country by providing world class training facilities. “By keeping in mind what an upcoming cricketer will face to achieve his dreams from an unprivileged or remote area, where a cricketer can’t get minimum facilities, to bring those young players into the limelight we came up with such a programme. ‘We come to you (cricketers); we don’t want you to come to MSDCA,” he said.
The academy will have seven to eight centres in the city by next year and in the next stage, the academy will open in every city and district of the Telangana State, Mihir added. He also divulged that free coaching, education and accommodation will also be provided for the talented players from the poor backgroud. Minister Malla Reddy, said, “Cricket is a popular sport in Hyderabad. You will find at least one cricketer in every street of the city. From now you (MSDCA) have to shine them and make those young cricketers like MS Dhoni.” He also thanked them for choosing Hyderabad to set up their high performance centre.
SATS chief Venkateshwar Reddy thanked Mihir Diwakar and Malka Komaraiah for bringing MSDCA to Hyderabad. He hoped that the academy will produce players like Dhoni in the future.
