Hyderabad: Digitalisation has grown multi-fold in the last 12 months and this in turn will fuel the growth of IT industry. According to experts, the industry is playing key role in value creation and catering to 75 per cent of Fortune 500 companies. However, as more and more digital services emerge, the skill sets needed for these technologies are not up to the mark.
“That is why there is a need to align our education system to make digital-ready workforce. While companies are upgrading their technology every 6 months or one year, academic insitutions are taking six years to upgrade to new technology syllabus. This gap needs to address as most companies have upgraded capabilities,” said Rajesh Nambiar, chairman, Cognizant.
Speaking about the IT landscape in the country, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) joint secretary Saurabh Gaur said that the IT-BPM sector contributes to 8 per cent of the GDP and digital opportunities in not just urban areas but also rural areas are emerging.
“We are looking at national programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to launch soon and also looking at a fund to provide access to MSMEs so that they can develop digital products and provide risk capital,” he said.
