Khammam: Around 38 Velugumatla displaced persons lodged a complaint with ACP (Town) SV Ramanamurthy against fraudsters who collected money promising house sites in Bhoodan lands.

They met ACP Ramanamurthy at his office here on Thursday to file the complaint. The ACP stated that Khammam commissionerate police have received complaints from persons defrauded on the pretext of offering Bhoodan lands. Complaints have been lodged at various police stations, including the Khanapuram Haveli police station. The fraudsters had collected amounts ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh from each person, thereby defrauding 38 individuals and amassing an amount of Rs 54.13 lakh.

The amount was paid to an individual, Polaboyina Muthaiah. The affected persons submitted copies of the receipts issued by Muthaiah to the police, along with the complaint. During the investigation, it was established that he had issued the receipts with the intention of defrauding innocent people.

The accused Muthaiah was sent to judicial remand. The Khanapuram police have sought police custody of the accused to facilitate a thorough investigation into the case. Further facts are likely to come to light during the investigation, the ACP said.
