Hyderabad: In a significant move, acting Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) President Sardar Daljeet Singh, in a communication to the affiliated members, clarified that only the 173 cricket clubs/members qualified by Justice L Nageswara Rao will be permitted to attend the adjourned Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Saturday (July 19) at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.

The communication, a copy of which is available with Telangana Today, bars all disputed clubs. In contrast to previous instances when 57 clubs — debarred due to conflict of interest and nepotism — were still allowed to attend meetings, this time the acting president has adhered strictly to the directions issued in July 2023 by Justice L. Nageswara Rao, the Supreme Court-appointed one-man committee tasked with administrative oversight and cleaning up HCA operations.

“The facts mentioned above clearly disclose that the management and/or control of the clubs are with an individual or his family members, as these individuals have continued to control more than one club. The current office bearers or executive committee members of such clubs are barred from either contesting the forthcoming elections to the Apex Council of HCA or voting in the elections. This bar will be applicable for one full term or three years, whichever is longer,” Justice Rao had ruled.

Further, the order had emphasized:

“No individual or their immediate family — including parents, spouse, siblings, spouses of siblings, children, and spouses of children — shall be part of the executive committee of more than one club. Any deviation shall be taken seriously, and expulsion of the club’s membership may be considered by HCA.”

This enforcement marks a clear break from past precedent and could significantly impact the upcoming HCA elections and internal dynamics.
