Hyderabad: Vimal Krishna looks a bit of a hero himself on-screen. This could be the reason why his filmmaking friends had first put him on the screen before he could actually think of becoming a director.
“The films that I’ve acted in were actually directed by my friends. So I was never an actor, rather my interest was always in filmmaking. Acting happened probably because my appearance on-screen was good. If not for that, my mind always lingers behind the camera,” he smiles.
His upcoming romantic comedy ‘DJ Tillu’, starring Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Neha Shetty, is all set to hit screens on Friday.
Vimal had been dabbling with the script for a long time with his friend, actor Siddhu. The debutant says their discussions on any random topic sometimes bordered on sarcasm. That’s what gave the edge to possibly explore the story of ‘DJ Tillu’.
“I’ve told the storyline to Siddu sometime back in 2019 and soon the lockdown has shut everything down. That was when I got a lot of time to design each and every character in the movie. We both wrote the script but dialogues were majorly penned by Siddu himself. He made the conversation so lucid,” he says.
As far as comedy space or commercial viability space are concerned, Vimal says, both Siddhu and he look at cinema in the same way. “His contribution towards the script is equal to mine. It was a very natural process, very organically written, it’s a no nonsense story. Siddu has been my friend for a very long time. I know how he would react to a certain emotion. How he would react to the comedy. And this particular comedy in the film is closer to Siddu’s strength. So, it was an automatic choice to select him and work on it,” he adds.
Tryst with camera
Vimal came to the city in search of fascination for cinema. His friendship with a few DJ friends in the city had given a sneak peek into the DJing and club life in Hyderabad.
“If a girl and boy are seen going on a road. There’s a possibility that both could be siblings or they both could be relatives, or even a couple. Taking this as the storyline, I felt it could be narrated in an entertaining way. I believe that if we want to send out a message in the society, none would be willing to hear if it is delivered in a hard-hitting way. So, it’s important to grab the attention of the public. It is possible if the message is delivered in an entertaining way. So ‘DJ Tillu’ isn’t judgemental about anything nor is it an adult movie. The romance in the film is very organic,” he says.
