Hyderabad: The neuro team of Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad have successfully treated a 42-year-patient Mallesham, hailing from Medipally mandal, Karimnagar, who was suffering from a very rare medical condition known as Takayasu’s arteritis.
Senior interventional radiologist, Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, Dr Suresh Giragani said Takayasu’s arteritis is a rare type of vasculitis, a group of disorders that cause blood vessels inflammation. The medical condition damaged the large artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body and its main branches.
Due to this medical condition, the arteries carrying blood to the brain were swollen from the average 5 mm to 35 mm. According to Dr Suresh, a stent was employed to unclog the arteries and revive blood flow to the brain. The procedure was taken-up successfully and the patient had recovered, doctors said.
The hospital doctors also managed to revive another patient from Karimnagar, Md Vilayath Khan after 10-hours of experiencing a brain stroke. The neurosurgery and neuro-physician team successfully conducted a procedure to get rid of the block at the high-end neuro laboratory at Yashoda Hospitals.
