Doctors’ body FAIMA demands probe into force used during CJP protest
FAIMA condemned the reported use of force against resident doctors and medical students during the CJP protest, expressing solidarity with those injured. The association demanded accountability, protection for healthcare professionals and dialogue with stakeholders while urging peaceful demonstrations nationwide
New Delhi: The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has condemned the reported use of force against resident doctors and medical students during Monday’s protest organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), demanding accountability and urging authorities to resolve the issue through dialogue.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the doctors’ body said, “The visuals of injured doctors and the reported use of tear gas in the vicinity of a medical college are deeply disturbing. Violence against healthcare professionals under any circumstances is unacceptable.” FAIMA said it stands in complete solidarity with all affected resident doctors and medical students.
“Every healthcare professional has the right to work, learn, and peacefully express concerns without fear of violence,” it said. Thousands of young and angry people converged near Parliament on the first day of the Monsoon session on Monday to push for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, only to be pushed back by lathis and teargas shells.
The association demanded “accountability for any excessive use of force”, “assurance of the safety and dignity of all healthcare professionals”, and “meaningful dialogue with the concerned stakeholders to ensure a peaceful resolution.”
It also appealed to Resident Doctors’ Associations across the country to remain united and stand together in support of our colleagues while ensuring that all demonstrations remain peaceful and disciplined.
“An injury to one doctor is an injury to the entire medical fraternity,” the statement said. The statement was issued by FAIMA Chairman Dr Jaideep Kumar Choudhary, Co-Chairman Dr Deependra Sewda and President Dr Srinath Dubyala.
