Sangareddy: AIG Hospitals chairman Dr D Nageshwar Reddy the importance of AI in healthcare was initially underestimated, but its impact on their practice, particularly in patient safety, has been transformative. With a dedicated AI department of 100 engineers, AIG stands out as a leader in healthcare innovation, he said.

“Accountability, ethical use, and regulatory frameworks are critical aspects of AI in healthcare, which still lacks comprehensive regulations”, he observed while addressing a three-day collaborative Indo-US work-shop organised at IIT-Hyderabad from December 16 to 18 on “Harnessing AI for Healthcare Transformation – (HAHT-IUS) 2024.

Stating that it was essential for human intelligence to guide AI responsibly and intelligently, he said to those concerned about AI replacing doctors that it was important to clarify that AI would not replace doctors. However, doctors who effectively use AI would undoubtedly surpass those who do not, he said.

Jennifer Larson, US Consul General, Hyderabad, said the USA and India had long been key partners in the world of technology, and now, the collaboration was entering an exciting new phase through the development of Artificial Intelligence. As Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during a recent state visit to the United States, she said the acronym AI has come to symbolise the American and Indian spirit. “We see this partnership contributing to a virtuous cycle of innovation and growth right here in Hyderabad,” she said.

Prof SS Iyengar, Florida International University, Prof Ramesh Jain, University of California, Irvine Dr Sanjay Doddamani, CEO and Founder of Guidehealth and others were present.
