Suryapet: Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday urged the State government to reconsider its decision of scrapping paddy procurement centres in the State from this crop season.

Participating in a demonstration held by the party in front of the District Collectorate protesting against the anti-farmers’ laws, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that lifting of paddy procurement centres would impact the interests of farmers and also lead to denial of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agriculture produce. “The State government widely publicised about Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima scheme, but it does not speak about crop insurance and waiver of crop loans,” he added.

He stated that earlier Congress government had purchased every grain of the crop from the farmers through paddy procurement centres and ensured MSP to the crops. He alleged that BJP and TRS were working a secrete agreement and the TRS government has decided to lift paddy procurement centres as a part of it.

Coming down heavily on Narendra Modi government, he said three new farm laws brought by the Centre were against the farmers’ interests and benefiting the corporate sector. The first law removing the restrictions on storage of crops and food grains would benefit only middlemen and corporate companies. The second new law would also not benefit the farmers in any way as it would facilitate the corporate companies to transport the purchased crop to long distance places where the price was high and to make money. The third new farm law would bring the monopoly of corporate companies in agriculture with contract farming. The Congress would continue its agitation until the tree farm laws were withdrawn by the Centre.

He said Congress candidate K Jana Reddy would win the by-election to Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency with a huge majority. The BJP would lose its deposit in the by-election, he added.

District Congress Committee president Cheviti Venkanna, the party leaders Thadu Srinivas and Chakilam Srinivas and party members were also attended the protest demonstration.
