Hyderabad: A door curtain turned into a deadly noose for a 11-year-old boy at Ghatkesar here on Thursday. The boy, S.Bhargav, was playing with his siblings when the curtain is suspected to have got entangled on his neck, suffocating him to death, police said.

Bhargav, a Class 5 student, was staying with his parents S.Srinivas, a TV mechanic, mother Shanthi, and two younger sisters at Brooke Bond Colony in Ghatkesar. The family, hailing from Toopran in Medak district, had migrated to the city and settled here eight years ago.

According to the Ghatkesar police, the mishap occurred when Srinivas and Shanthi had gone to work and Bhargav and his other siblings were playing in the house.

“While playing, he went to the bedroom door and put the curtain around his neck and was playing with it when the curtain accidentally got entangled on his neck,” police said, adding that he collapsed and died on the spot.

His siblings, who did not understand what was happening, sat in a corner of the house waiting for their parents. When Shanthi returned home after her work, she found him unconscious. She immediately took him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The family suspects no foul play in the death, said the police, who have booked a case and are investigating.

The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital morgue and was later handed over to relatives after autopsy on Friday.
