Hyderabad: Delhi dominated for the second consecutive day thanks to double centuries of contrasting style by left-handed duo of opener Sanat Sangwan (211 not out, 470b, 21×4, 3×6) and debutant Ayush Doseja (209, 279b, 25×4, 5×6) as it declared its first innings at 524 for nine against Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match at the NexGen Cricket Academy Ground (near Hakimpet) here on Thursday.
In reply, Hyderabad scored a breezy 77 for one losing southpaw and vice-captain G. Rahul Singh (35, 54b, 5×4,1×6), who looked in terrific touch before Delhi skipper and off-spinner Ayush Badoni trapped him lbw in the 15th over.
Earlier, it was Sangwan and Doesja show as the two strung together a massive 319-run partnership for the fourth wicket which pushed the home team completely on the defensive.
Sangwan preferred to play a perfect complement to the free-stroking Doseja, who was particularly severe against left-arm spinner G. Aniketh Reddy.
But, importantly, even Sangwan, who looked solid in defence for most of the partnership, finally opened up after the exit of his partner Doseja, who was trapped lbw by left-arm pacer Chama Milind, easily the most impressive with his three-wicket haul.
Sangwan came up with some extravagant strokes after surviving close calls on 102 and 115, reaching the double century in style with a straight six off Rohit Rayudu and indulging in Shubman Gill-like celebrations.
With the pitch offering no help to the bowlers, it was a forgetful day for the home team bowlers.
But once Delhi declared after the fifth over after tea, Hyderabad openers Tanmay Agarwal and Rahul Singh batted with great freedom, coming with some flowing drives on either side of the wicket before the latter was visibly upset with the umpire’s lbw decision.
The scorecard: Delhi – first innings: Arpit Rana c Himateja b Punnaiah 7, Sanat Sangwan not out 211, Yash Dull c Tanmay b Milind 0, Ayush Badoni lbw b Milind 53, Ayush Doseja b Milind 209, Anuj Rawat not out 29.
