Dowry harassment claims life of pregnant woman in Peddapalli
A 21-year-old pregnant woman died by suicide in Adavisrirampur, Peddapalli district, allegedly due to harassment from her husband and in-laws for additional dowry. Police registered a case based on her parents’ complaint and have begun an investigation.
Peddapalli: Unable to bear alleged harassment from her in-laws for additional dowry, Anjali (21), a pregnant woman, died by suicide in Adavisrirampur of Mutharam mandal. She reportedly hanged herself from the ceiling on Thursday night while other family members were asleep.
According to police, Anjali was married to Bandi Venkatesh of Mallampalli in Jayashankar-Bhupalpally district eight months ago. Venkatesh was handed over the entire dowry amount as well as other offerings by the parents of Anjali at the time of marriage. However, Venkatesh and his parents allegedly began harassing her for additional dowry.
Unable to tolerate harassment by husband and in-laws, Anjali came to maternal home one month ago and took an extreme step on Thursday night.
Godavarikhani ACP Madatha Ramesh, Manthani CI Raju and Mutharam SI Ravi Kumar visited the spot and enquired about the incident. Based on the complaint by parents, police registered the case and began investigation.
