Kumram Bheem Asifabad: A newly married tribal woman committed suicide by consuming poison as she was unable to bear alleged harassment of her husband for additional dowry at Kondapalli village in Penchikalpet mandal on Wednesday. The incident came to light on Thursday. Penchikalpet Sub-Inspector Raman Kumar said that the deceased was Athram Sharada (19), a native of Kondapalli village.
Sharada resorted to the extreme step when none were present as she was subjected to physical and mental harassment by her husband Tirupathi. She had the poison and died while being shifted to a hospital in Kaghaznagar. Tirupathi, who was addicted to liquor used to torture her seeking additional dowry, her parents alleged.
She was married to Tirupathi of Papanpet village in Bejjur mandal on February 11. Based on a complaint received from Shankar, the father of the victim, a case was registered against Thirupathi. Investigation got underway.
