It was once said by Joseph Joubert, “It is better to debate a question without settling it than to settle a question without debating it.” A debate has a purpose and that is to facilitate the exchange of ideas directly between two candidates. This was where the idea took seed.

During the online assembly organised by Delhi Public School, Nadergul, a lot of new technologies were brought forward by the students which sparked off a lot of interest in the students! That’s where the term “Argue with Science” came up, the school said.

Students were given an opportunity where they can give their viewpoints. The latest burning /hot topic being Artificial Intelligence. Wanting to know their viewpoints and also making them think about both sides of the coin, the topic “AI, a tool or threat” was decided. It was a turncoat debate where both pros and cons needed to be put forth for a minute each and sum up by concluding remarks in half a minute. An exercise to emphasize the idea that everything has two sides to it!

The speakers were confident, articulate and knew what they were talking about so convincingly. It was a treat to the ears, hearing the class X students give different viewpoints. The first-ever turncoat debate held in the science department on April 27 had 22 participants. They all gave the panel of judges a hard time.

Rakesh from the computer department, Arun from the physics department and Nikita from the English department were the judges for the event who gave their opinions and suggestions to the participants. The first place was bagged by Harsh Kumar of X-D, followed by Taneesha Singh of X-D bagging the second position and the third place went to Nikhila Sai Shruthi of XB.
