Hyderabad: Senior scientist from Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Dr G R Chandak has been awarded with the prestigious JC Bose Fellowship for his outstanding scientific contribution in understanding the genetic basis of complex disorders such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic pancreatitis and its interaction with various environmental factors.
Recently, Dr Chandak was also selected for the Sun Pharma Science Foundation Research Award-2021 under the Medical Sciences-Clinical Research category. The major focus his research group is on identifying various genetic and nutritional factors (and interaction between them), which influence ‘The Thin Fat Indian Phenotype’, and various intermediate traits that predict higher risk of developing diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
The JC Bose fellowship is awarded to active scientists in recognition for their outstanding performance by the Science & Engineering Research Board, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Scientist specific and very selective, it comes with personnel fellowship of Rs.25,000 per month and a research grant of Rs.15 lakh per annum and Rs. 1 lakh is provided as overheads for the host institute. The J.C. Bose Fellowship duration is 5 years.
