Dr Vishal Akula elected president-elect of IPS Telangana State Branch
Dr Vishal Akula has been elected president-elect of the Indian Psychiatric Society, Telangana State Branch, and will take office in 2027. A leading psychiatrist and mental health advocate, he is recognised for contributions to addiction medicine, psychiatric education and public awareness.

Hyderabad: Dr Vishal Akula, noted psychiatrist, academician and mental health advocate, has been elected president-elect of the Indian Psychiatric Society, Telangana State Branch (IPSTSB), and will assume office for the 2027–2028 term.
Currently serving as Professor and Head, Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Nizamabad, Dr Akula has contributed extensively to psychiatric education, addiction medicine, public mental health awareness and community outreach over the past two decades. Dr Akula also serves as Convenor of the IMA Telangana State Mental Health Committee and Chairman of the Indian Psychiatric Society’s National Addiction Medicine Specialty Section.
Widely recognised for his work in addiction medicine, suicide prevention, adolescent mental health and community psychiatry, Dr Akula has been actively involved in efforts to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness and improve access to mental healthcare.
Congratulating him, Dr George Reddy, honorary secretary, IPS South zonal branch, said the election reflected the confidence reposed in Dr Akula’s leadership and commitment to the profession. Senior psychiatrists, past and present members of IPS, congratulated Dr Akula for being elected.
