Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Hyderabad seized 25 kilograms of gold smuggled into the country on the city outskirts on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday. Three persons were arrested.
According to the DRI, on specific information they intercepted an SUV at the Panthangi toll plaza, about 55 kilometres away from Hyderabad.
“On checking the vehicle, which had an Assam registration plate, gold bars of four different companies were found concealed in a cavity inside the car. The gold was ingeniously concealed in the dashboard space by removing the airbags,” officials said, adding that the gold was being smuggled from Guwahati by road.
“They had successfully sealed the dashboard where the gold was concealed using glue and managed to hoodwink law enforcement officials during road checks,” officials said, adding that preliminary investigation revealed that the smuggled foreign marked gold was to be delivered in Hyderabad.
Three persons who were travelling in the car were arrested.
