DRI seizes gold jewellery worth Rs 1.20 crore at Hyderabad airport

Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized around 800 grams of gold jewellery, valued at an estimated Rs 1.20 crore, from a jewellery trader at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad.
According to officials, the Hyderabad-based trader was travelling from Tiruchirappalli to Hyderabad when he was intercepted by DRI personnel acting on specific information that he was allegedly carrying smuggled gold.
During a check, officials found the gold jewellery in his baggage. The seized jewellery was taken into custody for examination and valuation.
The DRI has registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the source of the gold, the circumstances in which it was being transported and whether others were involved in the alleged smuggling operation.
