Hyderabad: A man was charred to death on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Shamirpet in Medchal on Monday morning after his parked car suddenly went up in flames, triggering panic among motorists.
Preliminary investigation indicates that driver Durga Prasad (34), a native of Hanumakonda, had stopped the car on the roadside and is suspected to have turned on the heater/AC before falling asleep inside. Moments later, flames erupted inside the vehicle and rapidly spread, leaving him trapped with no chance to escape.
The incident occurred around 6 am, when the silver colour Ford EcoSport with registration number TS 03 FD 7688, which entered the ORR from Dundigal exit, crossed the Shamirpet stretch near Leonia Resort. Shortly after, the vehicle caught fire under mysterious circumstances.
Alerted by passersby, police and fire personnel rushed to the scene and managed to extinguish the blaze, but the driver had already been burned alive inside the car.
The Shamirpet Police have registered a case and are investigating whether the fire was caused by a short circuit, a heater malfunction, or any other suspicious factor. Further details will be known as the inquiry continues, they said.
