Drizzles add to Hyderabad’s traffic woes despite no heavy rain

Heavy rains on Tuesday evening left Hyderabad’s IT corridor and key junctions waterlogged, causing traffic snarls lasting up to three hours. Though Wednesday saw only drizzles, congestion persisted across major routes including HITEC City, Gachibowli, Madhapur, and Begumpet, with commuters fearing a repeat of Tuesday’s chaos.

Hyderabad: After giving the denizens a harrowing evening on Tuesday with waterlogged roads and long traffic snarls, the weather on Wednesday remained steady with drizzles till the evening.

Motorists faced significant traffic jams last night at several locations including Hitec City, Gachibowli, Madhapur, the Financial District, IKEA Junction, Kondapur towards Kothaguda Junction, Hafeezpet and Miyapur. The congestion delayed traffic movement by two to three hours in these areas.

At the IIIT junction and Khajaguda junction sites in Gachibowli, stretches affected by ongoing flyover and underpass works saw vehicles accumulate, causing slow vehicle movement. Water stagnated on this stretch at several points, adding traffic woes to road users.

Authorities and traffic personnel were seen managing vehicle movement at key junctions as the rain continued, but were unable to clear traffic late at night. Dozens of private travel buses moving towards the ORR and the Shamshabad side were caught in traffic jams, resulting in delays of three to four hours compared with the original schedule.

Commuters who spent long hours trying to reach home through the waterlogged streets and long traffic jams in several parts of the city, particularly the IT corridor, last night were worried about a recurrence of the same this evening too. The weather conditions with cloudy skies and intermittent drizzles that prevailed since morning today had the commuters worried about the possibility of the drizzle turning into rain by evening.

However, though it did not rain till late evening, the traffic woes continued in many parts. From Begumpet to Gachibowli to Madhapur, the vehicles struggled to move and the commuting times kept extending.
