Adilabad: A Markfed chief executive officer and two others allegedly assaulted a cotton farmer under the influence of liquor at the agricultural market yard here on Sunday evening, triggering outrage among farmers present at the spot.
According to sources, CEO Pandari along with two aides beat the farmer after objecting to him shifting his cotton produce late in the evening. He allegedly asked the farmer to leave the yard, accusing him of bringing the cotton too late, and then proceeded to assault him, drawing sharp criticism from farmers who condemned the attack and the CEO’s behaviour.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, Collector Rajarshi Shah directed the police to register a case against Pandari and verify whether he was in an inebriated state at the time of the incident.
The Collector is learnt to have instructed officials to initiate departmental action against the CEO and expressed displeasure over the assault, asking authorities to ensure such incidents do not recur.
