Dubai: As unique as her voice, legendary singer Asha Bhosle also worked hard to shine in the restaurant business in the Gulf region. Asha Bhosle spent most of her time in Dubai other than at her home in India, where she opened the first restaurant named after her in 2002 and since then the legendary singer expanded across the Gulf region and internationally.
As a tribute, Asha restaurant in Dubai, the first one abroad, was closed on Sunday as a mark of respect to its owner. In a statement, Asha Restaurant described Bhosle as more than just a founder; she was also the driving force behind the brand.
While the Dubai branch closed for the day in tribute, other branches in the UAE and elsewhere in the Gulf in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain remained open.
Known as a frequent visitor to Dubai, her last major performance was in December 2024 when she thrilled the audience at the age of 91 with the song ‘Tauba Tauba’.
Two decades ago, the singer threatened the Maharashtra government that she would move to Dubai permanently if her house was demolished as part of the Pedder Road flyover in Mumbai city as part of easing traffic congestion.
