Hyderabad: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Telangana, along with left-affiliated student organisations, has called for a Statewide bandh of educational institutions on Friday. This call was in protest against the government’s policies and pending issues such as school fee exploitation and lack of an Education Minister.

DYFI president Kota Ramesh and secretary Anaganti Venkatesh demanded that the government withdraw its proposal to reduce the number of the government schools from 27,000 to 4,000. They alleged that the government’s efforts to merge schools, close them on the basis of low student enrolment, and its failure to fill vacant posts in the Education department have pushed public education into a severe crisis.

The student activists pointed out that schools, junior colleges, Gurukul institutions, Model Schools, KGBVs, and other residential educational institutions are facing shortages of buildings, classrooms, toilets, and drinking water facilities. They demanded the government curb fee exploitation by corporate institutions by bringing in a fee regulation act. They appealed to the youth to actively participate and make the bandh a success.

Meanwhile, several schools on Thursday sent messages to parents informing them about closure of the school due to bandh call.
