Hyderabad: People suffering a brain stroke will have a chance of getting better result as soon as the patient reaches the stroke center after the onset of symptoms. Delaying every one hour before initiation of treatment significantly reduces the chance of a good result by 30 per cent, senior neurologists in an awareness program on brain strokes organised by Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad on Tuesday said.

Neurologists in the awareness program, organised to mark the occasion of World Stroke Day on Tuesday, urged family members to ensure the stroke patients reach a stroke centre at the earliest.

Advent of advanced medical technologies like mechanical thrombectomy is helping care givers save lives. A stroke happens when the blood supply to your brain is cut off, resulting in temporary or permanent damage to your brain cells.

Mechanical thrombectomy procedure helps in clearing the clots in the blood vessels, re-establishing the circulation to the brain, Director, Yashoda Hospital Group, Dr Pavan Gorukanti said. Inspector General of Police Ramesh Masthipuram, senior Neurologist, Dr. R. N. Komal Kumar and other care givers were present.
